“Study of a Mesquite Spoon” is a one-of-a-kind mixed media art piece that began as an oil-based wash painting. The texture was created to illustrate the unseen elements that make up each handmade artifact. This piece highlights the similarities in pattern between nature viewed from a macroscopic, microscopic, and telescopic perspective, speaking to themes of interconnectivity with all of life. This image is transferred onto cotton rag paper stained with Persian black tea, and is mounted to a wood panel using archival glue.

This piece comes with a custom handmade redwood frame made from salvaged fence boards by artist and craftsman Vincent Waring. The work measures 10”H x 8”W x 1.5”D and is protected with glass. The frame is sealed with an organic handmade wood polish created by the artist.
